Lutenist Alex Vourtsanis is a graduate student in historical plucked instruments at The Juilliard School, where he specializes in lute, theorbo, and baroque guitar. As a performer and scholar, Alex has a keen interest in the music of Vivaldi and the Venetian Baroque, as well as the science and history of instrument stringing.
Alex has performed with Shunske Sato, Stephen Stubbs, Alfredo Bernardini, Nicholas McGegan, and Julian Perkins, and with ensembles including the Juilliard415 Orchestra, Yale Voxtet, Yale Schola Cantorum, and Harmonium Choral Society.
Prior to pursuing his interest in early music, Alex worked as a composer of music for screen in Japan and the United States. He completed his undergraduate study at Yale University, where he received the Bach Society Prize and Abraham Beekman Cox Prize.
